Bolder BioTechnology Receives U.S. Patent for Long-Acting Growth Hormone Product

Wheat Ridge, Colorado - October 9, 2003 - Bolder BioTechnology, Inc. announced today that it has been granted Patent No. 6,608,183 by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. Joe Cox, Company President said "The patent's claims cover cysteine analogs and modified cysteine analogs of human growth hormone and growth hormone antagonists. The cysteine analogs permit targeted modification of growth hormone and growth hormone antagonists with large polymers such as polyethylene glycol (PEG), which are useful for creating long-acting protein therapeutics. Targeted attachment of PEG to growth hormone results in a homogeneously modified protein with high biological activity and overcomes the problems of product heterogeneity and loss of activity that occurs when growth hormone is modified using non-targeted PEGylation technologies. Our long-acting growth hormone product was created using this targeted PEGylation technology and is being developed as a potential treatment for growth hormone deficiency in children and adults. Currently marketed growth hormone products must be administered by daily injection, which represents a significant burden for patients, particularly children, who must take the drug for years. Our long-acting growth hormone product is expected to be more patient-friendly, with an anticipated dosing frequency of only once every one to two weeks."
