George (Joe) Cox, Ph.D. is Founder, President and Chief Scientific Officer of Bolder BioTechnology, Inc. Dr. Cox has been a full time employee of the Company since 1998 and a member of the Board of Directors since the Company's inception. Dr. Cox has over 30 years of biotechnology industry experience. From 1995 to 1998, Dr. Cox served as Vice President of Research and Development at Sangamo BioSciences, Inc., a biotechnology company focused on the development of highly specific engineered zinc finger DNA binding proteins for gene modification and regulation. Dr. Cox was the first scientist hired by Sangamo and was responsible for developing Sangamo's research programs and building the company's Discovery Research Group. From 1983 to 1995 Dr. Cox was employed at Synergen, Inc., a biotechnology company focused on the development of human protein pharmaceuticals and animal healthcare products. At Synergen, Inc. Dr. Cox served as Group Leader, Discovery Research, Director of Animal Health Care and member and chairman of the Science Council. Dr. Cox received his B. A. from Wesleyan University and Ph.D. in Biology from the University of California, Santa Cruz with Dr. Robert Edgar. Dr. Cox' Postdoctoral studies were performed at the University of Colorado, Boulder in the laboratory of Dr. David Hirsh.
